Welcome to the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Management.

The College of Business is dedicated to the preparation of men and women for careers of leadership and service in private and public business in our global environment.

Its location in a metropolitan environment affords students many opportunities for par-time employment, internships, field-based projects, and interaction with practicing business professionals. Management graduates are qualified for numerous professional and managerial positions throughout industry.

The College of Business is accredited by the AACSB, The International Association for Management Education.

Undergraduate Admission to the College of Business:

  • Completed Math 1302 College Algebra and Rhet 1312 Composition II with a grade of “C” or better and
  • Have a minimum of 2.25 overall GPA (at UALR or from transferring school) or
  • Have a minimum of 2.25 on the most recently completed 15 hours at UALR
  • Without being officially admitted to the College of Business, students may take all business courses (except the capstone MGMT 4380) as long as all prerequisites have been met. Please check current catalog for prerequisite requirements.

You must be admitted to the College of Business to receive an official degree plan.

Graduation Requirements: 2.0 in overall GPA, 2.0 in Minor, and 2.0 in Major. C or better earned in all Major courses.

Majors in the Department of Management

The UALR College of Business Department of Management offers majors in the following fields.

Management Information Systems (MIS)

The MIS Major develops competencies in analysis and design, development, and management of business information systems. Emphasis is on the development of computer applications in a business environment and the effective use of computer resources, such as database and local area network technologies, to meet business objectives. Students receive hands-on experience with client-server technologies through lab-based and independent projects.
The MIS Minor develops competencies in computer system analysis and design, advanced software application competencies, and specialized technical skills in computer programming, database and/or local area network design and administration.

Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management

The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Emphasis in the Management Major and Minor develop conceptual and applied skills requisite to developing and managing an economically successful small business. Entrepreneurial talents are focused and practical decision-making skills are developed through experiential activities in small businesses.

General Management

Students choosing the General Management Emphasis in the Management Major or the Management Minor will develop conceptual skill and practical problem-solving techniques that apply to management and will be educated in management fundamentals and methods applicable to decision making. Emphasis is placed on the importance of organizational behavior in public and private enterprises and consideration of the public interest in making management decisions.

Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management Emphasis in the Management Major and Human Resource Management Minor prepare students for careers in human resource-related areas including personnel management. The program stresses the importance of integrating individual goals with organizational objectives. Issues and activities covered are the legal environment of employee relations; job analysis and design; employee planning, recruiting and selection; employee training and development; employee productivity improvement, compensation, and other reward systems; union-management relations; and quality of work life.
